Ooredoo Qatar, Nokia Networks and Netgear have collaborated in a speed test using LTE-Advanced Cat 11 on the Ooredoo Supernet, achieving a peak data rate of 590 Mbps, reports Telecompaper.com on Oct 19, 2015. This is the first time this speed has been reached in tests in Qatar and the whole GCC region. Ooredoo said the speed was achieved by aggregating 60 MHz of spectrum across three bands and applying 256QAM higher order modulation.
It also served as a test for the next generation of Netgear Wi-Fi hotspots. Ooredoo has recently signed an agreement with Netgear to launch a new range of 4G and 4G+ LTE smart devices in Qatar. The peak data speed was achieved on the Netgear Aircard AC810S mobile hotspot, which supports three-band carrier aggregation that work in Category 11 mode to enable speeds of up to 600Mbps. Plans are in place for Ooredoo to launch the device in 2016.
