Samsung has taken advantage of its appearance at IoT World in Santa Clara, California, to announce a series of upgrades to its Artik smart IoT platform to improve interoperability and security for channel partners, reports Telecompaper on May 17, 2017. The platform now comes with secure services for device onboarding, device and user management, edge node management as well as secure over the air (OTA) updates. Samsung also unveiled a new affordable module, the Artik 053, designed to equip connected home appliances, building products, health care devices and industrial automation. The module can dramatically reduce development time with integrated real-time processing via a 320MHz ARM Cortex R4 core, 1.4MB RAM and 8MB flash, software and a pre-certified Wi-Fi radio, said Samsung.
Turning to its Artik partner ecosystem, Samsung announced a vendor partnership with VMware to accelerate the development, deployment, and management of IoT solutions for enterprises. Integration between the Little IoT Agent (Liota), a vendor-neutral open source software development kit (SDK) developed by VMware, and the Samsung Artik 530 module will be demonstrated at IoT World 2017.
