Ericsson and Microsoft have announced a partnership to simplify and speed up the time it takes to launch mobile network-based Internet of Things (IoT) services, reports Telecompaper on May 18, 2017. Under the terms of the deal, Ericsson's IoT Accelerator will allow businesses to deploy their IoT offerings using Microsoft Azure, giving them direct access to the ecosystem of mobile operators using the connectivity management service delivered by the Ericsson Device Connection Platform (DCP). The latter gives telecom operators the ability to design, launch and evolve managed IoT connectivity offerings for businesses requiring cellular connectivity. It also provides companies with full control and automation capabilities to handle the connectivity for their IoT devices.
The partners announced that water pump provider Grundfos was the first company to have trialed the pre-integrated offering from Ericsson and Microsoft to manage its smart connected water pumps.
