Smartphone market grows in Central and North-Western Russia in H1

Smartphone unit sales rose 10 percent year on year to 1.31 million in Central Russia, excluding the city and region of Moscow, in the first half of this year, according to a study by mobile retail chain Euroset, reports Telecompaper on August 10, 2017. In value, sales jumped by 18 percent to RUB 14.8 billion. The average retail price of a smartphone was RUB 11,000, up by 7 percent.
LTE smartphones made up 67 percent of all smartphone sales in unit terms, and 88 percent of the total sales volume.
Unit sales of tablets dropped by 21 percent to 187,000 and their value declined by 23 percent to RUB 1 billion. The average price of a tablet decreased by 2 percent to RUB 8,000.
In North-Western Russia, unit sales of smartphones increased by 10 percent year-on-year to 1.30 million devices and their value rose by 14 percent to RUB 16.6 billion. The average price of a smartphone grew by 4 percent to RUB 13,000. In the city of St Petersburg, unit sales increased by 5 percent to 620,000 devices and their value grew by 8 percent to RUB 9.5 billion.
Sales of LTE smartphones accounted for 70 percent of all smartphone unit sales and for 91 percent of the total sales volume in North-Western Russia. Tablet sales dropped by 22 percent to 198,000 units and revenue decreased by 24 percent to RUB 2 billion.
