Russian operators apply for 5G spectrum in Tatarstan

Russian operators working in the Republic of Tatarstan have submitted applications for 5G spectrum to the Russian State Radio Frequency Center (SRFC), reports Telecompaper on September 13, 2017, citing Dmitriy Vandyukov, the deputy minister of communications of Tatarstan. The frequencies will be used for the launch of 5G networks in the city of Kazan and in the town of Innopolis.
5G testing areas are be launched in order to define the necessary amount of base stations. A 5G network is planned in the Kazan-Arena football stadium, which will be used for the FIFA World Cup in 2018. Russian mobile operator Megafon initiated the deployment of the 5G network there. The regional ministry of communications has also concluded agreements on the launch of 5G services in Innopolis with the national operator Rostelecom and the regional operator Tattelecom.
Testing of the 5G network in Innopolis is planned to start in the first quarter of 2018.
