In the 4th World Internet Conference (2017), Eric Xu, the vice Chairman and rotating CEO of Huawei, spoke highly of the efforts and impacts of telecom operators in the Internet era and described the influences that 5G will bring to human society, he also shared Huawei’s 5G schedule, reports C114 on December 5, 2017.
What exactly can 5G bring to human society? According to Eric Xu, 5G can greatly enhance mobile Internet experience, for example, it only needs less than 2 seconds to download a 6GB HD movie through 5G technology. On the other hand, 5G can support 100 billion-level IoT connections and provide industry-level reliability and instantaneity, which make 5G the key foundation in guaranteeing the implementation of industrial strategies including Industry 4.0 and Made in China 2025. Huawei expects that 5G will become a universal wireless technology and all scenarios that need wireless connections will be realized by 5G.
Huawei will launch commercial-scale application oriented complete 5G network equipment solutions in 2018, it will support global telecom operators in deploying 5G network, push mobile Internet to a new level and step into the Internet of Everything era. Huawei will take the responsibility in realizing digitalization of various industries, it will launch 5G-supporting Kylin chips and smart phones in 2019, providing customers with ultimate 5G network experience as soon as possible.
Detailed description of Huawei 5G pre-commercial system
In the recently held China Mobile Global Partner Conference 2017, Huawei built and exhibited the first complete 5G end-to-end pre-commercial system (equipment + base station + core network + transmission), which demonstrated the latest progress and long-term vision of 5G industry through 16 ultra HD video display, ultra short time-delay industrial network and others.
In the mentioned system, Huawei 5G CPE prototype is based on 3GPP standard and chip architecture, which is of low power consumption, compact and portable, it is currently the smallest 5G test device and can be widely used in 5G pre-commercial network verification in the future, and provides strong supports for the subsequent scale tests. In addition, it can be hung on a wall or deployed on the pole for HD video backhaul in the cities; when deployed in a UAV, it can realize live broadcast at any time and any place. It has a wide application prospect, especially in the combination with vertical industries.
In the aspect of wireless technology, Huawei launched C-BAND base station for the first time, with relevant technologies and performances meeting China IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group’s requirements for 5G prototype in 3.4-3.6GHz band, as well as China Mobile’s Guideline for 3.5GHz 5G System Prototype and Trial that launched in the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona. This base station is integrated in antenna array and Radio Remote Unit (RRU), including 64 radio-frequency transceiver channels. In the second stage test of the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, it hit 28Gbps peak throughput.
The 3GPP SA2 #118 conference has defined service-based architecture as the only infrastructure, which achieves function decoupling of the network element function in the control plane, the same functions are cohered and displayed in the form of services. Huawei 5G core network equipment has already become service-based new core network architecture, it can achieve plug-and-play of network function and rapidly provide customers with what they need. At the same time, due to function decoupling of the network function and supporting for co-management and operation of standardized and customized functions, the network becomes very agile.
"To develop 5G, carrying network goes first", 5G carrying network is the highway of 5G end-to-end system. In 2017, Huawei continues to promote the development of 5G standards and achieves multiple technology innovations in 5G carrying network solutions with its partners.
