Hrvatski Telekom said it has become the first operator in Croatia to introduce real-life 5G functionality, making an important step towards the arrival of a 5G network in the country. A network operating in the 3.5 GHz band was implemented using Ericsson’s 5G network devices, ready for commercial use.
At the beginning of the year, HT started an upgrade of its mobile access network in the whole of Croatia, which will enable the introduction of 5G technology as soon as the required radio frequency spectrum is allocated. The project includes the modernization of infrastructure, transport capacities and equipment and will be completed by the end of 2019. In the first half of the year, HT replaced all 137 base stations in Istria with new, 5G-compatible base stations and since the beginning of July the upgrade is underway in Zagreb. A public demonstration of 5G functionality will be held on 13 July in Pula.
