Brazilian operator Vivo has activated 4G mobile equipment using the 700 MHz frequency in the city of Porto Alegre. The use of this spectrum range will improve indoor and outdoor coverage, as well as provide better connectivity to customers. Since 2013, the municipality has had 4G coverage on the 2,600 MHz frequency, the first available range for LTE in Brazil
More than half of its sites, scattered throughout the city, are already set to receive 4G on the new frequency, hitherto used by analogue TV and radio broadcasters. Vivo also offers the capital of Rio Grande do Sul access to 4.5G (commercially called 4G+). The state of Rio Grande do Sul already has Vivo’s 4G mobile coverage in 332 municipalities.
