ReteCapri has become the latest Italian broadcaster to lodge an appeal against the conditions of Italy’s forthcoming 5G spectrum tender, reports Corriere delle Comunicazioni. Italian communications regulator Agcom approved the country’s new national frequency plan last week, announcing that it would encompass 15 new digital terrestrial networks using DVB-T2 technology, divided into 10 national networks in the UHF band, 4 local networks in the UHF band and a regional network in the III VHF band. However, ReteCapri has now joined Mediaset and Cairo Communications in appealing against procedure for assigning frequencies to telecom operators, requesting up to EUR 31 million for having to “abandon” channel 57 on the national free-to-air DTT multiplex, said the report.

The corresponding EUR 2.5 billion tender was initially scheduled to be held by the end of September, although the sale and allocation of all frequencies in Italy’s 5G plan is unlikely be finalized before the end of 2022.
