BT Group subsidiary EE has switched on nine 5G trial sites covering the busiest areas of East London. These are Provost Street, Central Street, Old Street, City Road, Cheapside, St Paul’s, Bartholomew Square, Clerkenwell Street and Finsbury Circus Garden.
EE is inviting consumers and businesses in these areas to join the trial, which will use 5G as an alternative to their fixed broadband, allowing EE to assess customer experience of the new 5G spectrum. As well as these trial sites in East London, the operator is also testing 5G live in Canary Wharf. EE plans to launch commercial 5G services in 2019 in the busiest areas of the UK’s busiest cities.
