Finnish operator DNA said that it has completed 4G network upgrades started in the Tampere region in autumn 2018, preparing it for 5G. The largest updates were made in Tampere and Pirkkala, where LTE speed has more than doubled. DNA introduced new 4G frequencies and 5G-ready equipment.
Jarkko Laari, DNA’s mobile network manager, said the company is poised to deploy 5G once compliant devices become publicly available. It expects this to be later this year. The operator will still keep developing its LTE network for years to come.
The largest base station-specific capacity extensions were made in centre with heavy footfall. Local providers Pirkanmaa Teleurakointi, Voimatel, Pohjois-Hämeen Puhelin and ICT Elmo played important roles as base station implementers.
