The Thai National Broadcasting & Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) hopes to raise THB 53 billion and help the development of 5G with the sale of three 700 MHz spectrum licenses, Bloomberg reported. Each license will have a fixed price of THB 17.6 billion, NBTC secretary general Takorn Tantasith said at a briefing in Bangkok. The sale is expected to take place on 19 June.
Takorn said the aim is for a permit to go to each of the country’s top operators, namely Advanced Info Service (AIS), True and Total Access Communication (Dtac). Thailand’s military government said it will delay THB 150 billion worth of payments due from next year for 900 MHz licenses if operators take part in the 700 MHz sale. The three operators have filed for payment extensions but are seeking more clarity on the 700 MHz sale.
Takorn said the regulator used pause auctions as a guide for the price of the upcoming license sale.
