Monaco Telecom has officially launched its 5G network, covering the entire principality. Customers can acquire the Huawei Mate 20 X or Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 smartphones to access the service, which will be included free for all customers until the end of July.
Monaco Telecom said the launch of 5G is part of the government’s digital transformation programme and will support a number of 5G services. These include bus shelters with public Wi-Fi powered by the 5G network and soon environmental sensors. The fire service is also preparing a new drone surveillance service with cameras connected over 5G. In addition, start-ups such as Teale are working on using 5G for remote control of installations to support improved energy efficiency.
