The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs (BMWi) said it has published the 5G Campus Networks guide for small and medium-sized companies. The guidelines concern the operation of independent 5G networks. The guide addresses in particular the manufacturing and logistics sectors, but can be applied to many other segments, too. It describes the procedure for setting up and operating 5G campus networks, the areas of applications, and models of operator.
The guidelines are based on the results of the IC4F lighthouse project, which is funded by the Ministry for Economic Affairs as part of the PAiCE technology programme. The authors are experts who work for a project supported by the BMWi. Since last November, companies in Germany have been able to apply to use 5G frequencies in the 3.7-3.8 GHz range on industrial campuses. Local frequencies enable firms to build their own private networks, rather than rely on telecommunications providers to build networks.
