U Mobile and China Mobile Partner to Drive 5G Innovation

U Mobile, a prominent mobile and digital services provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Mobile International (CMI), a leading global telecommunications operator, to become strategic partners in advancing 5G initiatives. The collaboration will see both companies leveraging their respective strengths—U Mobile’s strong local knowledge and CMI’s extensive global experience—to drive 5G deployment, innovation, and adoption, particularly in business-to-business (B2B) solutions.
The partnership aims to explore innovative ways to harness 5G technology, including joint research and development, conceptualizing 5G monetization strategies, and promoting 5G adoption, especially among enterprises. As strategic partners, U Mobile and CMI will also collaborate on enhancing roaming infrastructure to provide seamless 5G cross-border connectivity for travelers, alongside developing 5G commercial models that extend beyond national borders.

The MoU was officially signed by Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile, and Wang Hua, Chairman and CEO of China Mobile International, during the 2024 China Mobile SEA Cooperation Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. The partnership reflects a mutual commitment to explore 5G’s potential in transforming industries and driving economic growth through innovative digital solutions.
