Vodafone Spain carrying out LTE-Advanced tests in Madrid
Vodafone Spain is said to be trialling LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) technology in Madrid using spectrum in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands. According to Cinco Dias, in its pilot of the technology, which is being conducted both in laboratory settings and in the AZCA and Nuevos Ministerios areas of the city, Vodafone has achieved downlink speeds of up to 297Mbps. The cellco was cited as saying that it aims to introduce LTE-A commercially in both Madrid and Barcelona ‘in the coming quarters’.
Meanwhile, Vodafone Spain’s existing 4G infrastructure was confirmed to now be available in a total of 15 cities, those being: Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Seville, Valencia, Santander, La Coruna, Zaragoza, Cordoba, Vigo, Murcia, Oviedo and Gijon.
