South Korean operator KT, in collaboration with NSN and Ericsson, has developed and launched a commercial service of Uplink CoMP (Cooperative Multi-Point) technology, Telecompaper.com reported on July 14, 2014. The Uplink CoMP technology is designed to enhance LTE data upload speed. KT has worked on this technology with NSN and Ericsson since January. A site test of Uplink CoMP technology in NSN and Ericsson’s LTE networks in the Daejeon-Daegu area demonstrated an improvement of up to 52 percent for terminal upload transmission speeds in border areas between base stations.

KT has also launched a commercial service for Uplink CoMP technology, which was previously only used for research purposes and trial demonstrations as a commercial network. KT also developed a TM-9-based two-way simultaneous CoMP technology in 2013 and commercialized its Uplink CoMP technology this year. By the end of this year, Uplink CoMP technology will be applied to every LTE network in Korea, KT said.
