Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) is expanding its fixed wireless and mobile broadband network with the implementation of 5,000 new 4G base stations in the next few months in order to bring wireless connectivity to all cities and municipalities in the country, Telecompaper.com reported on July 14, 2014. PLDT\'s mobile unit Smart Communications launched LTE services in 2012, and in April of this year, PLDT deployed its fixed-wireless version of LTE, thus providing wireless broadband services via its PLDT Home Bro Ultera service with speeds of up to 10 Mbps. Nearly 2,000 LTE base stations have been deployed so far. This latest expansion is part of PLDT Group\'s 32 billion PHP-designated capex for 2014, which also allots for the ongoing expansion of the operator\'s fiber optic network, which now reaches 85,000 kilometers, five times more than its competition.
