Mobile operator MTS Belarus has announced that it will upgrade more than 1,000 2G/GSM base transceiver stations (BTS) in the capital Minsk this year, according to Telegeography.com on July 16, 2014. Work is scheduled to take place overnight to reduce signal disruption. The cellco says that a total of 245 BTS have already been updated with the latest controllers, hardware and software, and that MTS Belarus has already completed a widespread 2G upgrade program covering the entire Mogilev region and the city of Grodno. The operator’s GSM network, which carries around 75 percent of all voice traffic in the capital, is also being upgraded to support HD voice services.
