Mobilis said to be planning 4G deployment

Algerie Telecom Mobile (Mobilis), the mobile arm of fixed-line incumbent Algerie Telecom (AT), is planning to launch 4G LTE technology, reported Telegeography.com on July 18, 2014. According to “credible sources”, the company is allegedly in talks with several unnamed international “technology giants” with regards to technological aspects of 4G deployment.

In February 2014, the Algerian government decided to amend certain provisions of parent companyAlgerie Telecom’s license in order to allow it to deploy new Wireless in the Local Loop (WiLL) technology. In May, AT introduced fixed-wireless LTE services to business subscribers ahead of a planned consumer launch. AT deployed 200 “eNodeB” sites across the country’s 48 wilayas (provinces)and plans to install 2,000 LTE-enabled base transceiver stations (BTS) by the end of 2015.
