Telkomsel to launch LTE at end of 2014
Indonesian mobile operator Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) plans to launch LTE-based 4G services by the end of 2014, Telecompaper.com reported on July 20, 2014. The Indonesian ministry of communications and information has granted Telkomsel a license for the provision of 4G services on the local market, Antara News reported, citing Telkomsel sales director Masud Khamid. Telkomsel will first offer LTE services in Bali and then extend its 4G offerings to six other large Indonesian cities, Khamid added. "We chose Bali because Bali is the most visited place by foreign tourists," he said. "After Bali, in the first quarter of 2015, 4G service will be launched in six other big cities in the country, which are Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar, Yogyakarta, and Manado."
