The general manager of Bolivian mobile operator Telecel (Tigo), Pablo Guardia, has announced the official launch of its new Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G network, Telegeography.com reported on July 22, 2014. Tigo Bolivia says it is responding to market demand for LTE given the widespread proliferation of smartphones, tablets and modems for laptops/desktops in the country. At its launch, the cellco’s new 4G service will be available from BOB245 ($36.24) per month and includes unlimited music access.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database reports that Telecel (Tigo) is 100-percent owned by Luxembourg-based mobile-holding company Millicom International Cellular (MIC). At the end of March 2014, it controlled a 32.6 percent share of the domestic cellular market, totaling 3.396 million customers.
