Vodafone Egypt will spend approximately EGP 9.5 billion ($1.3 billion) on improvements to its network over the next three years, Telegeography.com reported on July 22, 2014. It is understood that the expenditure will use existing funds. With Egypt still finalizing details for a unified license regime allowing the nation’s telecoms operators to offer both fixed and mobile services, Vodafone Egypt expects that it will cost around EGP100 million ($13.98 million) to gain access to the fixed line network owned by incumbent Telecom Egypt. Vodafone Egypt is also allegedly considering offering landline services, but it has not yet reached a decision on the matter.
