Algerie Telecom plans to lay 20,000 km of fiber optic cable in 2014 and 2015, announced CEO Azouaou Mehmel at the opening of the first Cybercafe connected to the Internet through its fixed LTE service, Telecompaper.com reported on July 26, 2014. The company has already installed 57,000 km of fiber nationally. He said, “The only objective of the extension, which will require time and effort, is to improve service quality for subscribers and to reduce faults on the line." Fiber is used to upgrade existing links through reconfiguration and to extend the network into new areas. It installed more than 1 million MSANs across the country this year.
