Brazil reaches 23.22 million fixed broadband subscribers
Brazil ended June with a total 23.22 million fixed broadband subscribers, up from 23.11 million the previous month, Telecompaper.com reported on July 28, 2014. The country ended June with an overall fixed broadband penetration of 35.53 percent. The Telmex Group (Claro, Embratel and Net) led the market with 7 million subscribers or a 30.33 percent market share. Oi was second with 6.56 million subscribers (28.28 percent), followed by Telefonica with 4.37 million (18.81 percent) and GVT with 2.76 million (11.89 percent). In terms of access technology, xDSL had 13.31 million active subscribers, followed by cable modem with 7 million and wireless with 1.19 million. Fiber, satellite, LTE, Wimax and PLC technologies accounted for the remainder.
