Bouygues boosts average LTE speed to 25 Mbps

Bouygues Telecom,a French operator has improved download times over its LTE network in the July-August period, compared to the previous two months, based on tests using ZDNet’s 4Gmark application and YouTube video downloads, Telecompaper.com reported on Sept 10. Bouygues’ average download speed over 4G rose by 12 percent to 25.1 Mbps. Free and Orange stayed at the top, with a 34.8 Mbps average for the former and 31.8 Mbps for the former. SFR came in last at 19 Mbps.

The number of tests also made it possible to establish a percentage of connection types for all operators. Bouygues had 76 percent penetration for 4G, 22 percent for 3G and 2 percent for 2G. Free’s users were 32 percent for 4G, 65 percent for 3G and 3 percent for 2G. For Orange the figures were 57 percent, 39 percent and 3 percent, respectively, and for SFR they were 41 percent, 39 percent and 3 percent. Speeds over 2G/3G are trending downward, with Free showing the biggest decrease, of 19 percent.
