Mr. Nick James
CEO of 3.5GHz operator UK Broadband
UKB’s 4G Development and Strategy
- 3.5GHz (B42&43) is the Next Gold Mine for Capacity Enhancement:
• Spectrum: 100+ 3.5GHz licenses and operators today, which were being used to build TD-LTE networks or look to migrate to the future with TD-LTE. 3.5GHz has the benefit of almost 400MHz of available and largely unused spectrum across the two bands 42 & 43.
• Performance: 3.5GHz is almost as good as 2.6GHz for coverage performance. Both UK Broadband and Softbank have been achieving more than 1 Gbps for downlink at 3.5GHz using four aggregated 20 MHz blocks or Carriers under the Carrier Aggregation mode which is possible with TD-LTE.
• Market: 5 commercial networks and 23 more planned.
• Devices: 43+ devices are available in 3.5GHz, including Consumer and Enterprise devices. Qualcomm will launch a multi-mode chip supporting 3.5GHz by mid 2016, and 2016 will be the big year for 3.5GHz.
- UKB:
• Status:UK Broadband Launched 3.5GHz service in London in 2014 which using Bands 42 and 43 (124MHz), and the new brand is“Relish”.
• Products: 1 mobile product and 2 fixed wireless products with the latter designed for the city and for Home Broadband and Office Broadband respectively.
• Dual Network Models:LTE and Enterprise LTE (eLTE) to build the smart enabling capacity layer.
