Mr. Zhao Zhiguo, the Chief Engineer of MIIT, noted that the Chinese government attaches great importance to and fully promotes 5G development. In network construction, a total of 2.844 million 5G base stations were built and put in operation by the end of May, covering all prefecture-level cities and counties around China. More than 16,000 5G virtual private networks were built, effectively meeting the individual needs of vertical enterprises for data localization and management autonomy. In technological innovation, a relatively complete industry chain was created for 5G system, chips, devices, and instruments. Continuous breakthroughs were made in 5G technology, such as large uplink bandwidth, network slicing, and edge computing. In integration of applications, 5G applications have been integrated60 out of 97 national economic categories, with a cumulative number of application cases exceeding 50,000.

To further promote the prosperity of mobile industry, Mr. Zhao put forward three proposals. First, adhere to technological innovation and strengthen industrial foundation. Promote 5G-A research and the integration of 5G with AI, big data, cloud computing and other technologies. Second, adhere to integration and promote industrial cooperation. Foster exchanges between ICT industry and vertical industries, and jointly explore new models and new business formats, to accelerate the process of 5G empowering thousands of industries. Third, pursue open development for a better future. Strengthen global cooperation, promote connectivity, and foster extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. Finally, he encouraged GTI to continue playing its crucial role in the evolution of mobile technology, to jointly promote the vigorous development of the industry.
