P1 unveils plan to upgrade to TD-LTE
Malaysian Wimax services provider Packet One Networks (P1) has budgeted MYR 750-900 million for its 2.0 Evolution Plan over the next three years. The plan will include upgrading its Wimax network to TD-LTE, The Star Online writes citing P1 chief executive Michael La. P1 expects to have around 4,000 TD-LTE base stations, which would cover 80-90 percent of the population, up from 55 percent coverage currently.
The 2.0 Evolution Plan will also see the company introduce fibre-optic offerings for residential and business customers. To this end, the company signed an agreement with Telekom Malaysia in October last year and P1 expects to launch the first fibre services by the end of this month. The service provider is targeting 500,000 to 550,000 subscribers this year and 750,000 in 2013. In 2014, P1 expects to hit the 1 million mark.
