Mr. Liu Yulin

Vice Director General of Department of Information

and Communication Development at MIIT of China

Mr. Liu Yulin, Vice Director General of Department of Information and Communication Development at MIIT of China, stated that the new information and communication technology represented by 5G plays a crucial role in boosting greener lifestyles, promoting energy conservation and efficiency of enterprises and advancing the green and sustainable development of cities.

The Chinese government gives high priority to and strongly promotes the development of 5G and other information and communication technologies for "Dual Carbon" goals. First, improve the overall network capacity. To date, over 1.4 million 5G base stations have been launched. Second, facilitate the intensive sharing of infrastructure to build the world's largest 5G network. Third, focus on improving energy consumption management, with the energy consumption of one new 5G base station being further lowered than in 2019. Fourth, give full play to 5G's green empowerment to the industry, and strengthen integration of 5G and vertical applications, to step up the process towards digitalization, intellectualization and greenization of all industries.

To enable green and low-carbon development by 5G innovation, Mr. Liu Yulin made three proposals: First, build a "green road" to the quality development of new infrastructure. Second, establish an "ecological space" integrated with 5G and green industries. Third, build a "bridge of friendship" for international exchange and cooperation. At last, Mr. Liu expressed his hope that GTI will adhere to the spirit of "openness, collaboration and innovation" and continue to play a vital role in advancing 5G innovation and transforming towards a low-carbon economy.
