Following its launch of Canada’s first commercial Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Ottawa in July, Rogers Communications has announced that the 4G mobile broadband service will be expanded to Toronto on Sept 28. Rogers also revealed that customers in Toronto and Ottawa will be able to purchase LTE smartphones in the autumn, including the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE and an HTC smartphone, alongside other wireless devices including an LTE tablet from "a leading manufacturer".

By the end of the year Rogers says it will have LTE devices capable of maximum theoretical download speeds of up to 100Mbps, compared to current device capabilities of up to 75Mbps, with Ottawa LTE customers currently experiencing typical download speeds ranging from 12Mbps to 25Mbps. Rogers also plans to expand LTE to Montreal and Vancouver this autumn.
