First batch of TD-LTE handsets will debut in November
With the steady development of network infrastructure, TD-LTE devices was finally unveiled in China these days. Recently MIIT issued network access license for the first batch of 4G mobile phones, which implied the 4G commercialization is drawing near.
MIIT official website shows that on August 30 there were four devices from different vendors already got the network access license. These four TD-LTE handsets are made by Samsung, Sony, ZTE and Huawei and their model are Samsung GT-N7108D (GALAXY Note II), Sony M35T (Xperia SP LTE), ZTE U9815 (Grand Memo LTE), Huawei D2-6070 (Ascend D2 LTE) respectively. They all supported four modes(TD-LTE/FDD/TDS/GSM).
According to sources from C114, the handsets will begin shipping in quantity during November to the end of 2013. Currently, China Mobile is still waiting for TD-LTE licensing.
It is worth mentioning that multiple sources shows that in the conference on September 10 Apple will release two new iPhones - iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C and both will be compatible for FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE. For the license issue, it will take time for China Mobile’s plan to launch TD-LTE iPhone. Detailed launch date is not confirmed yet.
Though the specific date of the issuance of 4G licenses is still unknown, the network access permission can be viewed as a prelude.
