China Mobile releases Converged Communication White Papers at GTI Asia Conference
Li Yue, president and CEO of China Mobile, released the Voice over TD-LTE White Paper (version 2) and the Next-Generation Converged Communication White Paper (version 2) at the GTI Asia Conference on June 11,2014 in Shanghai, China.
On the basis of the original edition released last June, the new version of the Voice over TD-LTE (VoLTE) White Paper further clarified VoLTE technical requirements for 2014-2015, guiding the industry to prepare in advance for testing and verification of relevant functions.
The VoLTE White Paper (version 2) points out four principles of China Mobile TD-LTE network development strategy:converged development of TDD and FDD; synchronous development of TDD and FDD; pursuance of first-class network performance; use of open standards-based solutions.
To meet VoLTE business demands, China Mobile expects to achieve the following four objectives through facilitating coordinated efforts by the entire industry: to make VoLTE the mainstream voice solution worldwide; to provide high quality video and audio service through VoLTE; to support VoLTE global roaming; to ensure end-to-end network equipment and terminals available for commercial use in the second half of 2014.
Based on the first version published in Feb 2014, the new edition of the Next-Generation Converged Communication White Paper further specifies the end-to-end technical requirements of China Mobile converged communication including networks, platforms and terminals. It calls on industry partners to accelerate their development process to align with the technical requirements and roadmap of China Mobile.
The white paper points out that Next-Generation Converged Communication introduces “New Call, New Message, and New Contact” with full-range service and improved user experience, as an upgrade to the existing “Call, Message, and Contact” services. This upgrade is done with global interoperability to retain worldwide accessibility and carrier-class service quality.
Meanwhile, China Mobile is looking forward to fulfilling four goals together with the whole industry. Firstly, promote the converged communication “three new” concepts to be global basic communication solution and standard. Secondly, realize cross-operator interconnection of the “three new” services and achieve seamless global roaming. Thirdly, promote the maturity and large-scale commercialization of “three new” terminals. Fourthly, accomplish overall commercial use of the “three new” services in 2015.
