1. Overall Description:

RAN5 thanks NGMN for the LS on “NGMN-GTI 5G Smart Devices Supporting Network Slicing”for the introduction of “5G Smart Devices Supporting Network Slicing White Paper”. RAN5 acknowledges the encouraging progress jointly made by NGMNGTI for 5G Smart Devices supporting Network Slicing. RAN5 also appreciates NGMNGTI for sharing the requirements on 5G smart devices supporting network slicing.

RAN5 would like to inform that the topic of enhancing the testing for 5G NR UE supporting Network Slicing has been well discussed during the recently concluded RAN5#90-e meetingsome good results have been achieved. New Work Item on UE Conformance Test Aspects for Enhancement of Network Slicing (R5-211303, https://www.3gpp.org/ftp/tsg_ran/WG5_Test_ex-T1/TSGR5_90_Electronic/Docs/R5-211303.zip )New Study Item on 5G NR UE supporting Network Slicing Testing (R5-211309, https://www.3gpp.org/ftp/tsg_ran/WG5_Test_ex-T1/TSGR5_90_Electronic/Docs/R5-211309.zip ) have been endorsed by RAN5. These new WorkStudy Items will be submitted to TSG RAN Plenary#91-e meeting scheduled 16 – 26 March 21 for approval. RAN5 endorsed proposals are normally approved by the TSG RAN Plenary.

The objective of the new Work Item on UE Conformance Test Aspects for Enhancement of Network Slicing is to define UE protocol conformance test cases for “Network Slicing interworking support from EPC to 5GC”“Network Slicing based authenticationauthorization”it is targeted to be completed by TSG RAN#94 (Dec-21).

The objectives of the new Study Item on 5G NR UE full stack testing for Network Slicing are:

- To study how to define test procedures that will allow the full protocol stack testing of a 5G NR UE supporting network slicing. The expected output is test procedures for full protocol stack testing of the network slicing functionality, e.g. how the UE uses configurations matching UE application to traffic descriptor components to S-NSSAI.

- To study how to define test procedures that will allow the service performance testing of a 5G NR UE supporting network slicing. The expected output is test procedures for performance testing of the network slicing service, e.g. application layer throughputlatency.

The output of the Study Item is to be captured in a new TR “Study on 5G NR UE full stack testing for Network Slicing”  and is targeted to be approved by TSG RAN#95 (Mar-22).

RAN5 will keep NGMNGTI updated on the progress of 5G NR UE supporting Network Slicing Testingis looking forward to further fruitful cooperation.
