Japan’s Rakuten Mobile has reportedly achieved data throughput speeds of 1.77Gbps in a recent test of its 5G millimetre wave (mmWave) network.

Fierce Wireless notes that Altiostar – in which Rakuten Mobile holds a stake – lauded the ‘performance and automation capabilities’ of the virtualised cloud-native network that was launched last September using its Open vRAN software.

Ashraf Dahod, CEO of Altiostar, is quoted as saying: ‘This is a significant milestone for the Rakuten Mobile and Altiostar partnership towards commercial realisation of a high performing, cloud-native 5G RAN architecture.’
