The 3.5GHz band should be released for 5G use in Belo Horizonte (the capital of Minas Gerais), Joao Pessoa (Paraiba) and Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul) on 29 July, TeleTime reports. All three state capitals are said to be at an advanced stage in terms of installing filters to eliminate interference in the 3625MHz-3700MHz C-band range.

Going forward, the band administrator (Siga Antenado) will inform the government’s Group for the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems (Grupo de Acompanhamento da Implantacao das Solucoes para os Problemas de Interferencia, GAISPI) of each city’s status on 27 July. Sao Paulo, which was earmarked for inclusion in the first wave of 5G markets has slipped behind schedule, however, with only half of the required filters installed to date.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Brazil’s three national mobile operators, Claro, TIM and Vivo, all switched on Standalone (SA) 5G technology in Brasilia (Distrito Federal) in the first week of July, after receiving the green-light from GAISPI.
