Finnish mobile network operator (MNO) Elisa has announced the expansion of its 5G network across Lapland.

According to the cellco, its 5G infrastructure has been switched on in Kemijarvi, Keminmaa and Pyhatunturi in the municipality of Pelkosenniemi.

Detailing the new coverage areas in a press release, Elisa noted that its 5G network will initially cover the built-up area east of Pyhatunturi, including the ski centre, while in Kemijarvi it will cover the Raajarvi area. In Keminmaa, meanwhile, the 5G network will reach the Metsakall and Kallinkanka areas.

On the back of this network expansion, Elisa claimed it now offers 5G in a total of 197 locations across Finland, with more than 80% of Finns within its network footprint.
