Singapore’s largest telecommunications company by subscriptions, Singtel, has revealed that, working in partnership with Ericsson and Qualcomm, it achieved upload speeds in excess of 1.5Gbps on a 5G millimetre (mmWave) network.
The telco noted that the trial aggregated four component carriers (4CC) to achieve the peak speeds using a test device powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System. It is hoped that the future introduction of higher uplink capacity will significantly ‘bolster industry 4.0 applications’ in areas such as manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, entertainment and news production, which often require higher uplink capacity.
‘With the enhanced 5G upload speed and Singtel Paragon, the industry’s first all-in-one 5G and multi-access edge compute business orchestration platform, enterprises will be better able to analyse the performance of their devices and network and increase the capability of real-time performance monitoring and feedback,’ the three partners said in a joint statement.
