Digicel Pacific Regional Chief Executive Shally Jannif has welcomed the launch of a 5G test network in Suva, Fiji, stating she sees the technology as ‘the future of connectivity’. Jannif confirmed that Digicel Fiji officially received a licence to test 5G technology from the Ministry of Communications on 17 April 2023, and that the testing of the new network will last for twelve months.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate last month Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica revealed that the government was working with the country’s telecoms operators to commercialise 5G services in the country. ‘Right now, we are issuing licences to the two players for the testing, there are some regulations we need to step through and once that’s done, we will be rolling out the 5G network,’ he said.
