Mavenir said its solution will allow Deutsche Telekom IoT to provide connectivity services internationally to multinational companies

Network software provider Mavenir has announced the deployment of its cloud-based remote packet gateway to Deutsche Telekom IoT in North America.

Mavenir said in a release that the initial use case will be focused on the delivery of IoT connectivity to several industry-leading car manufacturers.

Mavenir noted that the automotive landscape is in process of transformation, with customers increasingly prioritizing sustainable mobility solutions and shifting away from car ownership as a symbol of status. According to the statement, key trends such as electric vehicles and car sharing are rapidly expanding, and the rise of connected cars is paving the way for autonomous driving, thereby putting pressure on automakers and suppliers to build resilient supply chains. These factors collectively contribute to the growing need for automotive IoT solutions, Mavenir said.

Deutsche Telekom IoT is deploying Mavenir’s remote packet gateway 4G and 5G NonStandalone (NSA) solutions to enable localized data breakout, allowing traffic to be routed through two data centers in California and Virginia and supporting IoT deployment applications across the continent.

Mavenir explained that its remote packet gateway uses the converged packet core session management and user plane functionality, which function as 4G components replicating the packet gateway’s control and user planes. This separation of control and user plane enables reduced latency for user data, reduced data transfers via transatlantic transmissions and supports advanced connectivity services with different charging options in vehicles, including internet radios, in-car Wi-Fi, telemetry data, remote map and Short Wave upgrades.

Additionally, Mavenir said its solution will allow Deutsche Telekom IoT to provide capabilities and connectivity services internationally to multinational companies, without any kind of geographical or technological constraints.

“Mavenir’s solution deployed with Deutsche Telekom IoT will create the foundation for the future of connected vehicles. The applications enabled by this partnership will allow car manufacturers to benefit from advanced connectivity and an improved customer offering serving the needs of today with a vision for the future,” said Ashok Khuntia, Mavenir’s president of core networks.

Last month, Mavenir announced the closing of a $100 million capital raise, which will support the company’s efforts to enable the digitization of telco networks with Open RAN (O-RAN), IMS and converged packet core.

The company noted this new funding adds to the $250 million raised in 2022. The fundraising round was anchored by Siris, a technology focused private equity firm and Mavenir’s largest equity holder, along with investment from two highly strategic ecosystem partners.

“This new capital will allow us to accelerate our capabilities in automation, sustainability, and use of AI as we enable our customers to efficiently deploy and operate O-RAN based end-to-end cloud-native networks. Our unique strategy incorporates best practices from the hyperscale, cloud and IT industries, to transform how the world connects and builds the future of networks,” Pardeep Kohli, president and CEO of Mavenir, said.
