Maxis Finally Launches 5G After Shareholders Approve DNB Access Agreement

Malaysian mobile network operator (MNO) Maxis has become the last of the country’s major service providers to introduce 5G connectivity for end users, doing so over the network operated by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). This development comes after Maxis last month announced its intention to sign an agreement which would allow it to access DNB’s 5G network, having long been the only one of Malaysia’s incumbent MNOs not to ink an ‘Access Agreement’ with the wholesale operator.

With Maxis shareholders having voted to approve the execution of the access agreement with DNB at an extraordinary meeting held on 14 August, the operator has wasted no time in moving to commercialise the latest generation of mobile broadband technology. New tariffs have been launched today (15 August), with 5G being offered for both pre-paid and post-paid users. Prices for the cellco’s post-paid 5G plans start at MYR79 (USD17.2) per month for a plan offering 80GB of 4G/5G data, plus a further 40GB of 5G-only data, as well as unlimited voice calls and SMS.
