Airtel Tanzania, the country’s second largest mobile operator by subscriptions, has launched commercial 5G services.
Customers can access the new high speed network via a 5G home broadband router or a range of 5G-compatible mobile smartphones and devices.
For 5G router customers, 30-day unlimited tariffs are available on a pre-paid and post-paid basis and range in price from TZS70,000 (USD27.8) for speeds of up to 10Mbps to TZS200,000 for 100Mbps data rates. According to Airtel, at the initial phase 5G is only available in ‘specific locations’, assumed to be main cities including the capital Dar es Salaam.
