Vodafone Spain is reportedly dipping its toe in the 5G Standalone (SA) waters, but unlike rivals Movistar and Orange the company has stopped short of making the service available to all its customers and instead is promoting a private network format, or Mobile Private Network (MPN). 

According to Gearrice, Vodafone’s first business customer is the motor company Ford, which will install 5G SA in its factory in Almussafes, Valencia, to help optimise the production processes. 

The report goes on to note that the innovation will enable Ford to ‘obtain early validation of components, functionalities and software thanks to the collection of information through still images or videos that will be processed with Edge technology on the Vodafone network’.
