Safaricom announced on Monday that its 5G network is now available in all 47 counties in Kenya, claiming it to be the largest 5G operator in the country. The operator reported that it has surpassed 1,000 5G sites, covering 102 towns and reaching 14 percent of the population.

5G Coverage and Expansion

Safaricom said it has now deployed 1,114 5G sites across the country since the service first launched in October 2022. The company has over 11,000 enterprise customers on 5G and more than 780,000 active 5G smartphones.

"We believe that the benefits of 5G will be a key catalyst in leapfrogging other innovations, industries, as well as Kenya's digital economy," Safaricom said in a statement.

Safaricom became the first service provider in Kenya to introduce 5G in October 2022. The company said it has since continued expanding its 5G network, driving the digitisation of enterprise solutions across IoT, cybersecurity, cloud services, and payments.

Vision for 2030

Safaricom aims to become Africa's leading purpose-led technology company by 2030, and the expansion of 5G is expected to unlock new opportunities in areas such as immersive experiences, gaming, smart warehousing, and telemedicine, the official release said.

Safaricom Network Coverage and Fiber

Safaricom covers 97 percent of Kenya's population with 2G, 3G, 4G, and now 5G. Its fiber network has reached more than 560,000 homes and businesses, providing high-speed internet access across the country.
