TIM Brasil (TIM) has selected Finnish telecom vendor Nokia to expand its 5G radio access network (RAN) coverage across 15 Brazilian states starting in January 2025. This expansion will increase the availability of 5G connectivity, allowing more municipalities to benefit from ultra-fast, secure internet access. It will also help local enterprises enhance their operations through digitalisation, driving innovation and economic growth, the official release said on Monday.

TIM Brasil's 5G Expansion Initiative

Under the deal, Nokia will provide TIM with a range of equipment from its 5G AirScale portfolio, including baseband units, Massive MIMO radios, and Remote Radio Head products. These devices are powered by Nokia's ReefShark System-on-Chip technology and combine to provide superior coverage and capacity.

AI in Network Management

Additionally, TIM will implement Nokia's AI-driven MantaRay Networks Management system to enhance network monitoring and management. Nokia will also offer digital deployment, optimisation, and technical support services as part of the agreement.

TIM Brasil said: "As 5G continues revolutionising connectivity, we are committed to extending these advancements to more Brazilians. This will benefit industries and consumers with new services, solidifying TIM's position as Brazil's leading 5G provider based on the number of sites."

TIM Brasil 5G Network

Nokia will modernise TIM's network with 5G equipment from its AirScale portfolio. Through this partnership, TIM will expand its 5G network in Brazil, enabling the company to deliver the fastest and most reliable 5G connectivity to its customers.
