Telecom Italia has expanded its high-speed fiber-optic and 4G networks in Potenza, capital of the southern region of Basilicata, and has started work on its FTTH roll out, Telecompaper.com reported on Wednesday.

The fiber service will eventually reach 11,800 households, with the operator looking to install around 31 km of cables to connect over 80 street cabinets, providing customers with Internet connections at speeds of at least 30 Mbps.

In addition, the company has installed nine LTE-enabled base stations in Potenza to expand its 4G coverage to around 90 percent of the city\'s population.
