Digicel launches LTE in Papua New Guinea
Mobile operator Digicel has started the first 10 LTE sites for postpaid customers in Port Moresby, becoming the first company to introduce 4G in Papua New Guinea (PNG), Telecompaper.com reported on Wednesday.
CEO John Mangos said there was a real demand for network speed in PNG, and the operator was prepared to take the lead in meeting this demand through LTE. In time the service will be rolled out to other provincial and district centers, and eventually be made available to prepay customers. Of the 10 initial 4G sites, eight lie within the central business district area while the other two cover Savannah Heights and Gordons.
