Movistar Peru expands LTE network coverage

Movistar Peru has expanded its 4G LTE network coverage in the capital area, around the city of Lima, and, starting May 15, its customers in the Surquillo, Magdalena, Lince, Barranco, Jesus Maria, Pueblo Libre, Chorrillos, Independencia, Los Olivos, San Luis, Bellavista and La Victoria districts will get access its 4G LTE services, Telecompaper.com reports, explaining that the operator currently serves 700,000 4G LTE subscribers.

Movistar started its commercial LTE network in Peru in January, initially for seven Lima districts -- Cercado de Lima, La Molina, Miraflores, San Borja, San Isidro, San Miguel and Santiago de Surco -- and following network expansion, its 4G LTE network covers 19 of the capital’s districts.

The operator also plans to make 4G LTE services available in the cities of Trujillo, Piura, Chiclayo, and Arequipa and is preparing to put over $400 million into the network, and to expand 4G services across Peru over the next five years.
