The PTA might issue licenses for 3G and 4G spectrum on World Telecom Day, May 17, to cellular mobile operator (CMOs) auction-winners, Daily Times reports, quoting an unnamed source in the Telecommunication Ministry. So far, two of the four auction-winners (Ufone and Telenor) have paid their dues (license fee), while the remaining CMOs (Zong and Mobilink) are expected to fork over their dues before May 15.

Interviews and discussions with telecom experts revealed that the 2,100-MHz and 1,800-MHz bands will allow telecom operators to deploy both 3G and 4G networks and provide the most advanced mobile services. They termed the spectrum auction a “landmark event” in Pakistan\'s telecom sector history and said the NGMS will make mobile broadband services available in rural and urban parts of the country.
