HTC partners with Far EasTone to create the largest 4G mobile service provider

HTC Corp signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), on Wednesday, with Far EasTone Telecom (FET) on a partnership for providing fourth-generation mobile services, Chinapost.com reports, noting that the signing ceremony, in Taipei, was hosted by FET’s president, Yvonne Li, and HTC’s CFO, Chang Chia-lin.

FET is expected to start its 4G services soon, so this partnership will give it an advantage in becoming Taiwan\'s largest 4G mobile service provider. The company wants to become the island\'s No 1 mobile commerce provider within the next three years, Li said, adding that she expects new mobile services to exceed NT$5 billion ($166.77 million) within three years and account for 6 percent of overall revenues.

She went on to say that Far EasTone also has a goal of expanding its share of the telecom services market to 20 percent by 2017, from the current 15.

The MOU will let HTC\'s 4G smartphone be chosen by FET to serve as its LTE supplier. HTC took the title of largest smartphone supplier by value in the local market, in April, on the back of strong interest in its new flagship model, the HTC One M8. In value share, HTC took about 26 percent of the Taiwan market, that same month.
